Reccie of Duffryn Crawnon circular route

Encountered 3 obstacles: –

1. The diversion off Brinmore Tramroad, travelling in a NW direction is now itself impassable where 30/25/1 joins 30/40/2. There appears no sign of the Bridleway, it is covered with undergrowth and we had to find alternative route.

2. Beacons Way 30/26/4 at approximately SO11773 18943. There is a fallen tree, looks recent, and someone has started to remove branches. It is navigable with care.

3. Am unsure about the next one, and sought NPA’s guidance. I would guess this falls way down list of NPA’s priorities. In order to reduce the amount of road walking, I found a FP which appears on OS map as continuous but when I look at definitive map, it shows a break in Footpath at SO15330 20002. There is no signage where 21/26/1 leaves Forge Rd in Llangynidr and FP map seems to go through a property, Celyn House. Feeling sure it was a right of way we went through garden and found an overgrown, but definite path leading to a padlocked double gate, over which we climbed. Wonder now if we trespassed! I don’t intend taking a group on this route.

I reported obstacle 3 back in 2008 and got the following reply from Avril Barnes
“FP 26 has not been diverted. We did have discussions with the landowner but we don’t have an outstanding file on the path. The route as shown on the OS map I think is used.” Not very helpful.
