Our celebrations of 70 years of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949
Chariots of Fire concentrated on the early life and success of Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell at the Paris Olympics. Many may recall Liddell’s turn to missionary work but perhaps not Abraham’s later career and his part, as Secretary of the National Parks Commission from 1950-1963, in establishing our National Parks. This nugget of information formed part of the talk recently given by Julian Atkins CEO of the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority to members of the Brecon Beacons Park Society. His talk and walks that day were to celebrate 70 years since the passing of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. …..
