Pont Ar Daf Car Park Development
Work to begin on transforming Pont ar Daf car park at the base of Pen y Fan
National Trust Cymru is privileged to care for iconic sites within the Brecon Beacons, including Pen y Fan, which attracts a growing number of visitors each year, and we are committed to making sure that people start their journey in a fit for purpose car park.
Ahead of announcing to the public next week, I wanted to let you know that in May, we will begin work on extending and improving the Pont ar Daf car park (situated on the foot of Pen y Fan), which will also include new visitor facilities. On completion, the car park will offer:
– 260 safe parking spaces away from the busy A470 road, including dedicated spaces for disabled users, coaches, cyclists and mountain rescue teams.
– A sustainable future with electric vehicle charging points and space available for those choosing green ways to travel, along with the establishment of trees throughout the car park.
– Accessible toilets and changing facilities, which will be accessible 24 hours a day.
– Improved signage and information for people to better plan their day.
The plans for the site have been developed by working with key stakeholders within the National Park.
Redevelopment of the site will be carried out in a sustainable way using local businesses and materials where possible and is designed to be in keeping with the natural surroundings of the area and designated landscape of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
With the work scheduled to take place from May until the end of the year we will work with our contractors to keep disruption to a minimum.
The project has been made possible thanks to part funding by the Welsh Government through the Visit Wales Tourism Investment Support Scheme.
On completion of the work we will be introducing car parking charges which will generate a long-term income to enable us to continue to enhance access and conservation across the Beacons. Trust members will be able to park for free.
