Personally, I would like to see the BBPS campaigning for the re-opening of the upland areas for walkers – with the possible exception of ‘honeypot destinations’ like Sugarloaf and Pen y Fan. Transmission of Covid outdoors is minimal and social distancing is generally incredibly easy in the mountains, even at busy times. By shutting down the most remote areas, you are driving people into far more crowded places like town parks. It is my contention that the National Park should be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Here here – I totally agree

I agree with Richard completely…the authorities are now finally admitting that outdoor areas are very safe, but they did not say this at the start of the problem. We are also the only country in Western Europe where outdoor tennis is still banned …why ? regards, Rob Wilkinson Cwmbran.

We discuss this in the Executive and had hoped for a loosening. Know many are pressing the Authority itself.

In principle it’s true that social distancing is what hills are ideal for. However with the mixed messaging from Westminster and the ‘overeaction’ to loosening that has been seen this is a difficult and dangerous path to tread. Anyone coming from built up areas has to travel far and has to park a car. The Authority are in an imposslible situation until central government once again sends clear messages with rules the police can enfoce.
