Illustrated Talk: Welsh for Walkers – Cymraeg i Gerddwyr
Hello members of the Brecon Beacons Park Society,
“Welsh for Walkers – Cymraeg i Gerddwyr” is the neat title for the talk that Wally James will be giving us at The Bear Hotel, Crickhowell, next week at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 15th February.
Here is his description for the talk: “When did Welsh come to be? How do you say that and what does it mean? If you want a potted history of the Welsh language, learn how to get your tongue around some of those names on the OS map and discover their wonderfully descriptive meanings, I will try to put you right in this introduction to the Welsh language. Croeso i chi gyd (Welcome to you all) but be prepared to have a go at saying it in Welsh.”
As most of you know, Wally, jointly with Anthea Scott, is our Walks Secretary. He is also bilingual in English and Welsh with a great enthusiasm for the Welsh language. So he will be bringing the two together for this presentation.
It is three years ago that Wally last talked to us on this subject, and, since then, there have been many requests for him to return with another session. I am delighted, as many others will be, that he has now agreed to these requests.
