Campaigning for National Parks
Our Chair Martin Buckle and publicity/walks officer Nic Groombridge recently attended meetings of the Friends of the various National Parks in England and Wales and met with like-minded colleagues from Dartmoor to the Dales, Lakes to the Broads. Many are active in organising volunteers or challenging planning decisions and not all organise walks programmes. They have differing priorities but all recognise the rise of concern about the global environment and not just their patch.
The next day they attended the AGM and conference of the Campaign for National Parks. Much of the business was about the Glover Report on designated landscapes in England (some of which might effect Wales). The report encourages greater access to the countryside but raises the possibility of AONBs and National Parks being treated more similarly and a National Landscapes Service.
