Brinmore Tramroad

Below is a report of a recent walk Stuart and I did, along Brinore Tramway. Generally, the conditions were great, the route was either very good or excellent but some areas of concern. I understand the poor state (in parts) of Bridleway 30/29/2 is well documented with walkers encouraged to use the diversion.

There is evidence of relatively new work having been undertaken along some of the bridleways and what looks like unfinished work, with posts left at the side of the path and rolls of wire fencing.

Our route followed Bridleway 21/32/2 which led to Bridleway 30/29/2 and on to Pen Rhiw-calch. We returned, leaving Bridleway 30/29/2 and joined the detour at SO092156, re-joining the tramroad at SO095150. We saw what looked like a quadbike event with marshals (along Bryniau Gleision to our left), many motor-cyclists, pedal cyclists and some walkers.

We encountered 2 landslips and observations are as follows.

Location of Landslips

  1. SO093150 (What3Words scouts/pelting/worksheet)
  2. SO091153 (What3Words divisible/tried/player)

I have asked Eifion to advise if further work is to be undertaken along the bridleway? Specifically, can anything be done to improve the path at SO91153?

Leaving aside the cultural and historical aspects of the tramroad, apart from the 2 issues mentioned above, the footpath is, in Stuart’s and my views, very good to excellent. As a bridleway, it appears unsafe in several areas. It is difficult to see how the Tramroad might be improved.
