Walks & Rights of Way
Brecon Beacons Walks
The Brecon Beacons National Park offers a great range of walks ranging from the high peak wilderness of Mynydd Ddu in the west, through the high peaks of the central Beacons to the slightly more gentle Black Mountains in the east. In between, there are beautiful valleys, lakes, waterfalls and the canal.
Society led Guided Walks
The Brecon Beacons Park Society offers a year round programme of Guided Walks led by experienced leaders. These walks are open to any member of the Society at no cost. Non-members will be asked to pay a small contribution.
We recommend you read our Guidance for Walks before you join one of our walks, so you know what to expect.
Rights of Way – Diversions and Problems
Phil O’Shea, the Society’s Rights of Way Officer, publishes a list of known issues affecting footpaths in the National Park. Click here to see the current listing or to report a problem you have found.
Long Distance Paths
There are four recognised long-distance paths crossing the National Park. Of special note is the Beacons Way a long distance trail across the Park from East to West, devised by the Society in conjunction with the National Park Authority. This walk is not for the foolhardy as, particularly in the west, there are no waymarks and few footpaths, so a high degree of competence in map reading is required.
Do you need a Guide?
The Society does not provide professional guides, but we do have a list of local ones. Please mention the Society when you contact a guide.
We make no recommendations on information we provide.
