Public Footpaths Nos. 42 and 69 in the Community of Ystradfellte. Public Path Diversion Order 2021
Public Footpaths Nos. 42 & 69
NOTICE OF PATH DIVERSION ORDER HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 Brecon Beacons National Park Authority
The above Order made on the 20th May 2021 will divert that part of FPs 42 and 69
Visited site with NPA staff and had opportunity to get a better feel of what is planned, including the establishment of new ROWs, and the upgrading of the permissive path to a ROW which will mean NPA will have responsibility to repair and improve that footpath.
Representations about or objections may be sent not later than 18th June 2021. Further info is available from Phil O’Shea
I have serious reservations about this order and will be making a second site visit. The present path from Cwm Porth to the waterfalls area is on a straightforward route, initially along a good track. The proposal would divert it so it runs along the bank of the Afon Mellte to the footbridge at SN 9246 1113, with a branch from the river across to SN 9258 1119, just south of Hendre Bolon. The proposed routes give privacy to Hendre Bolon.
I am concerned
a) about promoting the riverside path as it is not protected from the river, which is liable to flooding.
b) the riverside path is somewhat uneven with tree roots
c) it is proposed to enclose the paths imposing regular maintenance to keep them clear of hedges and tree branches as they run along field boundaries
Having re-visited the site with the BBNP warden I am now happy with what is being planned. Major works are planned to provide better links in the path network and provide an upgraded scenic route along the river bank.
